Color Schemes For Flowering Shrubs
The landscape of your garden or yard may be an extension of your home, so why not try some exterior decorating? Flowering shrubs can provide the fundamental
color base for your landscape as well as other flowering plants you may have such as perennials or annuals.
Flowering Shrub Color Chart, see below.
Using Contrasting Colors Strong colors spread sparsely among large areas of softer shades are very effective at drawing attention.
Illusions of Space Using shrubs to create backgrounds of pink, grey, blue and mauves create a misty effect giving a feeling of depth. Use
red in the foreground will emphasize this effect. A red flowering climbing rose works perfectly in the foreground.
Color Scheming Look at the color chart below. By choosing
shrubs from only one of the color groups, you will be able to create a dramatic
display of flowering shrubs. Selecting shades of blue or a range of oranges for
example. But you don't need to stick to just this color, throw in a few purples
or pinks into a blue color scheme for instance, and this will greatly enhance the look of your project area.
Which Shrubs to Use? Once you have chosen your color
scheme, you then need to find the correct shrubs to provide the colors for your
scheme. We have put together a flowering shrubs color chart to help you get
started below. Reed on for some more tips. Choosing shrubs with longest
flowering periods keep your color scheme lasting longer, and save you lots of
work too. Using green foliage shrubs is always useful, no mater which color
scheme you have chosen, as the green foliage will enhance the other plants, and
can conceal or divert attention where needed. You don't need to stick with
the green foliage shrubs either, as many foliage shrubs are silver, gold or variegated.
