Shrub Species of the Artemisia Genus

Sagebrush, is a common name for some species of Artemisia native to the North American west and other parts of the world. It is sometimes confused with Sage herb shrubs from the genus Salvia, hence a Sagebrush shrub is not a true Sage herb. The Artemisia genus comprises of species that are hardy herb shrubs well known for their volatile oils.

 Species of the Artemisia genus grow in temperate climates in the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere, usually in dry or semi-dry areas. Leaves of many species are fern-like and covered with white hairs and have strong aromas and bitter tastes which discourage being eaten by animals (herbivory). The small flowers are wind-pollinated, so no insects are needed there either.
