Shrub Species of the Peashrub (Caragana) Genus
There are approximately 80 different species of Peashrubs (Caragana). Their growth form is that of shrubs or small trees growing 1-6 m (3-20 ft) tall. Most species have solitary or clustered yellow flowers, some species have white or pink. All Caragana produce seeds in a linear pod. All peashrubs are legumes.
Peashrub is commonly grown throughout the northern hemisphere as an ornamental landscaping shrub. Species of the Peashrub (Caragana) Genus are adapted to a climate with warm summers and cool winters. They are winter-hardy, drought-tolerant and long-lived. They grow well in a wide range of soils; however, they do not grow well on very dry, sandy soils or in wet boggy soils. They can be heavily pruned to keep shape or maintain a certain size. Facts about the Caragana Genus of Shrubs
